Luxembourg City, Luxembourg / 2 nights
Well here we are. I can quite believe today is the day we head back home. When Ben and I got on our first train to Paris I turned and said to him, ‘remember this moment right here because before you know it, we will be on our train home’. At the time I didn’t think much of that but damn was I right!
To think we have been on this trip for just under 2 months is so surreal. I think it’s because of how, ‘on the move’ we have been and how much travelling we have completed. It feels like we have had loads of separate city breaks and not one huge continuous holiday.
Now onto the last stop of our trip; Luxembourg. To be completely honest with you, the only reason this city was on our route was because we had to pass Luxembourg in order to return home so for the sake of ticking off another country off our list, we decided to add the destination to our trip.

Due to the reason of why we stayed in Luxembourg, I knew nothing about the city before we arrived. This meant exploring the city on foot and seeing what we come across.
In terms of sights, Luxembourg does not really have famous landmarks unlike most capital cities across Europe. Additionally, I had never knew or realised how small the city was, we managed to walk the whole city in a day which was a bonus considering we only had 2 nights here.

The one thing that shocked me so much about Luxembourg was how green it’s surroundings were. The majority of the city is consumed by trees and open grass areas. Apart from its highstreets filled with designer brands it does not provide the feel of a capital city at all. It was a great breath of fresh air. It makes a wonderful change to a more typical city consisting of a sea of buildings and sky scrapers.

The main sights to behold would be the Grand Ducal Palace, this is where the Duke of Luxembourg resides. Covered with armed guards outside marching and patrolling the area it makes for an interesting historic sight. Secondly, there is a quarry in the heart of the city which has been transformed into a beautiful park and this is where you will find the Adolphe Bridge. The most picturesque area of Luxembourg and a nice escape from the city above you.

In complete honesty would I recommend Luxembourg as a city break? Possibly not if you haven’t already visited the major cities of Europe. However, if you are clutching at straws and want a weekend away then why not. Plus, I’m always trying to tick places off of my ‘Been’ app. This is a great app for any travel maniacs like ourselves. It allows you to select all the countries you have visited in the world. At the moment mine I have only seen a mere 12% of the World but I have now seen 33% of Europe thanks to this trip!
If you have followed my blogs throughout our Interrail trip then I want to thank you for the support and I hope you have enjoyed reading along with our travels. This does not mark the end of my blogs as I hope to continue on my return home and all our future adventures.
Peace and love,
